August 4, 1997

It was a beautiful summer day and a block party was beginning.  I went to spend time with my friends and Johnny was there to accompany his friend who wanted to see his girlfriend.  Ironically Johnny's family was having their own block party and his parents were not too happy that he had left.  He was only supposed to be gone for an hour...that didn't happen!

While sitting at the table I noticed Johnny across from me.  He was wearing a green t-shirt and denim shorts and I couldn't help but notice that he was cute.  Little did I know that he was looking at me thinking, "That girl stole my chair." Apparently he had been sitting where I was and when he got up to get a soda I sat down.  Ooops... Anyway, we hadn't spoken a word to eachother until Johnny felt the need to ask me a very embarassing question and it broke the ice!  It soon came out that we both recently moved to Franklin Square and that both of us had grown up in Ozone Park, Queens.  Minutes turned into an hour and Johnny realized he had to return home.

I walked him to the not so private corner of Hempstead Turnpike where we stood and talked for at least another hour.  Johnny realized that if he didn't get home soon that he would be in a lot of trouble.  He wrote my phone number down on a napkin and we stood awkwardly unsure of how to say goodbye.  It was a moment where we both realized that we had chemistry and it was as if we coudn't help but stand close.

To this day we debate what happened next..we went to kiss each other on the cheek.  I claim that Johnny moved and kissed me and he claims that I kissed him but either way that is exactly what happened.  Not only was it our first kiss but it was my first kiss ever.  Little did we know that our kiss would lead to a lifetime together...It is a day that I never want to forget.
